RE: Going to TEXAS!

Howdy! We just returned to the Houston area yesterday to help out family with the storm damage. We're put down in Highlands just east of Houston on I-10. Last week LW sister advised us that the RV parks in the area had plenty of spaces. When we arrived yesterday and checked in at San Jacinto Riverfront RV Park they were almost full. They advised they are starting to fill up with insurance and workers for storm damage. I would start calling around and make reservations. The power coming back and most RV parks should be open closer to the Houston area. "Happy Trails" chiefneon

RE: Which Fifth Wheel to buy?

Howdy! While looking make sure the company is still in business and hopes of remaining in business. There are a lot of companies going under which means no warranty. One of the best full-time RV's Teton just went under. "Happy Trails" cheifneon

RE: Just spent a month in Banff and Jasper

Howdy! We just finished up and over three month trip in Alaska and Canada. The only people we observed with dogs on a leash we're those traveling. Seems most people who live in the area don't think the leash laws are for locals, and as stated it doesn't get enforced. "Happy Trails" chiefnoen

RE: Running from a hurricane in a fiver

Howdy! We went through Rita a few years ago. I would recommend going west, while everyone else is going north. I-10 West puts in central Texas and depending on location of landfold on the good side of the storm. "Happy Trails" chiefneon

RE: Campground Electricity

Howdy! We had a lot problems with electric connections last year traveling in the northeast, and Canada. Did a lot of research on this forum and escapees. Decided to purchase a Progressive EMS 50 amp hard wire system. Best money we've spent. It has worked great especially on our trip in Alaska this year. "Happy Trails" chiefneon

RE: Questions about Quartszite and area

Howdy! If your interested in silver smithing, rock polishing, arrowhead knapping, jewelry casting, etc... check out the Quartzsite Gem and Mineral club. Their located in town next to "Solar Bills" and have instructor to help you as needed. Great place friendly folks, we spent a lot of time there making jewelry an other things. There are areas that you can boondock for two week for free near by. You should know by then if your up to it. If so you can move to the LTVA (long term vistors area) fee required but they do privide dump and water. We saw plenty of RV park spaces in town last year that were open. You should not have a problem finding one that early in the season if you decide to move to one. "Happy Trails" cheifneon

Wintering in Florida without reservations

Howdy! We have spent the last two winters in Quartzsite Arizona. We're thinking about spending this winter in Florida as we're headed to Nova Scotia for a reunion in the summer. Is it possible to winter in Florida without reservations. We would like to go down to Key West again and work our way back up the east coast area. Staying anywhere from a week or two up to a month at anyone location. Most of the research I seen on this site states you need reservations for long stays in Florida. "Happy Trails" chiefneon

RE: Emptying the blue tote??

Howdy! We us our blue tank all the time for black and gray water. The one sure way to control the transfer of fluid into the blue tank is by using a macerator pump. We have a portable one that hooks to the 3" sewer line of the RV and to the 12v system. You don't have to worry about it over flowing as you control it. "Happy Trails" chiefneon

RE: Best (Most scenic) Dry camp in AK ????

Howdy! We second that! It is absolutely the best campground we've stayed at during our visit to Alaska even if it is dry camping. "Happy Trails" chiefneon

RE: Questions about towing doubles

Howdy! Like you we Full-time and wanted to add a ATV (Yamaha Rhino) to enjoy places we travel to. Did some research and found a Tote not a double tow was the answer. We purchased an Idaho Tote which attaches to the rear of the 5er. It is an extends from the 5er frame an not consider a double tow. You can also turn and back it up without disconnecting. Our's also has the option to disconnect it and attach a tow bar to the tote to be us a s stand alone trailer (nice option). They aren't cheap but well built. Large tires 15" (not like the swivel wheels) and has it's own brake system. We have a MDT (Chev. Kodiak C5500) and 36' 5er an are still under 65' overall. Check their web site it might work for your needs. idahotote.com "Happy Trails" chiefneon

RE: Driving on pismo beach sand

Howdy! We stayed at Oceano State Park Campground for a week recently. While there we saw a lot of MH's 5er's and other RV's stuck in the sand on the beach. It's not if your going to get stuck it when and where. Oceano is a nice CG just a block and half from the beach. Also the tress blocked the off shore winds which were like being sand blasted when we stayed there. "Happy Trails" chiefneon

RE: Albuquerque Balloon Festitval

Howdy! We attended the Balloon Festival in 2006. It is one on the list of once in a lifetime need to see. We stayed in the VIP-2 (boondocking) on site. It seems expensive but worth the money time you add in the four ticket you get and the parking you pay for if staying off site let alone the traffic which is at a stand still. One reason to extend you stay is weather. Balloon don't fly due to bad weather and/or high winds, so some events get canceled. Its also nice to be on site early in the morning when the "Dawn Patrol" goes up in the dark. "Happy Trails" chiefneon

RE: Window Tint-Keeping Cool

Howdy! We had the same problem in our 5er. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and look for the radiant barrier material. It looks like bubble rap silver on one side and white on the other. We purchased a roll it and cut it to fit the windows placing it between the window and day night shade. We have a large rear bay window and I recall when we placed the first piece in the large window how much you could tell the difference. It also helps in cool weather. Nice part you can put it in and remove it as needed. "Happy Trails" chiefneon
